Atlanta Food Truck Park

We've been busy exploring our new surroundings in Atlanta this summer, and I've been trying to keep my kids occupied as we are currently living in corporate housing and have squeezed into a two-bedroom apartment.  Yeah...we've already had noise complaints so just being out of the apartment keeps everyone happy and sane!

One evening we ate dinner at the Atlanta Food Truck Park near downtown.  The food trucks are not your typical hot dog and pretzel food trucks, but instead serve gourmet dishes like goat cheese-stuffed fried green tomatoes and sweet savories like salted carmel banana pudding.  Yum!

I hope to find more of these local spots as I get to know the area.  And of course shopping spots too!

Mid-Century Ranch

It's amazing how a bucket of white paint and new flooring can transform a home needing major renovations.  This mid-century ranch is a house we saw on one of our house-hunting rounds and has many things that I love--natural light, hardwoods, good space, white kitchen.  Our realtor told us it was recently renovated, so we asked her to send us an old listing of the house with pictures so we could get a comparision of what had been done.  We were impressed by the transformation.  Too bad we have two kids too much for the house!

Summer Skirts at a Discount

My fashionista friend Ashley is a guest blogger over at How Does She today.  She has some great shopping tips on how to find cute skirts at a discount.  If there is one person to take shopping tips from that would be Ashley.  She is so fun to go shopping with because she easily rummages through clothing racks in record time and will always pull out that perfect hidden dress.  And if you express an interest in it, she always hands it over.  She's that kind of shopping friend--only sends good influences and will tell you how it really looks or tell you how it really should be priced.  And she is just so sweet to model some DMJ pieces--wishbone necklace, LOVE necklace, Lotus bangles and Ashley necklace

DIY Playdough

We are going to try out this fun playdough recipe made with Jello for my little ones to play with during quiet time and to get my bigger ones to help out in the kitchen.  Looks like a fun recipe and the colors are so vibrant.  I'm sure the dough smells fruity too!

Baby Shower Idea

I threw together this baby shower idea using only paper--no computer printing or design work.  Easy for anyone to do--and very low cost!  Just takes a little time to put together. I bought a few different 12x12 coordinating paper within the color theme I was trying to go for--soft tones of blue, grey and yellow.  These are fun party ideas for anyone to do--low cost and a good way to put paper to use.

Topper flags make a simple cupcake festive and an extra lovely way to top off your cupcake creation.  Buy wooden skewers or toothpick then cut 1/2 inch strips of your 12x12 paper.  Wrap the paper strip around the skewer and wrap it like you would do to a tie around a neck.  Then cut the ends.  Decorative cupcake wrappers also make fun topper flags--fold in half twice then hot glue to a toothpick.  Simple.

Banners are a great way to honor the mommy-to-be (or birthday kid).  With this banner, I measured and then cut my 12x12 paper into rectangles then snipped the bottom to make it look like a flag and hot glued it on thick yarn.  For the letters, I used a stencil.  Or you can free hand it.

Cut more 1/2 inch strips of paper for serving cups and then made decorative windmills from 6x6 inch paper that I cut down from the 12x12 inch paper.

Tiny baby food jars make really great favors!  Fill it with candy or in this example I used flowers.  Clean the jar then paint the bottom with craft paint.  Let it dry upside down.  I used an alphabet stamp for the thank you tag that I stamped on the remains of the paper I was using.  I used a 1.5" flower punch then I stamped and attached with some kraft ribbon.

Good-bye Picnic Party

Hello.  This past week has been a little crazy with the move to Atlanta.  We are still figuring out housing and trying to find something we like in the school district we want to be in, which has been tricky because a lot of other families want to be in the same area.  Competition! With the 4th of July happening tomorrow, I've been really missing home.  We usually spend the 4th in Cape Cod, so I'm sad we won't be beach bound, eating lobster and homemade ice cream and riding bikes down to the parade.  Moving is hard!  But I'm trying to stay positive for the kids and my sanity.  Our Connecticut house has sold so this move has become more of a reality and not just a long vacation!  Before we left, a few of my girlfriends threw a sweet good-bye picnic party so we could say goodbye to our favorite people.  They threw a southern style to the party theme and it was so sweet and very thoughtful.  I'm truly so sad to leave some of the best friends behind but so grateful they came into my life.

Homemade cobblers!

Friends and families took pictures under the lanterns for our keepsake.

Chloe's favorite friend.  She was obsessed with him!

My girlfriend Natalie, who did all the decorations!
